Rosacea is a skin condition that can cause redness, swelling visible blood vessels and often small, red, pus-filled bumps on the face. It is a non-contagious inflammatory condition that can often be mistaken for acne or other skin conditions. The red flush that is most associated with rosacea usually affects the cheeks and nose and can often feel hot and uncomfortable, even stingy at times. In more severe cases, the red flush can become permeant and broken capillaries noticeable and dark.

While the exact cause of rosacea isn’t exactly proven, it commonly affects middle-aged women and men (over the ages of 30) with fair skin. The condition is exacerbated by lifestyle factors such as alcohol, heat and overheating, spicy foods, sun damage and mental health concerns like stress.

Here at Luminosity Skin and skinMD, we’ll diagnose the condition of rosacea by physical examination and medical history. Blood tests may occasionally be necessary also.

Post diagnosis our team of on-site GPs can prescribe medication, treatments like laser and chemical peels as well as injected products that may assist in reducing the severity of your rosacea. Treatments such as antibiotics or anti-acne medication can control and reduce symptoms very well as well as our preferred method which will consist of a holistic approach that often will be supported with laser. Left untreated, rosacea tends to worsen over time.

If necessary, our team will refer onto further medical intervention.
